Udover de kendte skadevirkninger på lunger, blod (forsuring) og vejrtrækningsmuskler (stivgørelse), med skadepåvirkning af kroppens metaboliske processer, er der også hudskader forbundet med brug af mundbind og maske.
Mundbind og masker ØGER paradoksalt også bærerens risiko for infektioner:
